And through every round runs the one constant stream, the monitoring.
The alerts are the unfortunate part. In most operations they do not arrive in one place, they arrive in a fractured stream spread across shared inboxes, distribution lists, chat channels, vendor portals, and whatever creative feed someone added last quarter, not realizing they were creating another split in attention and another stop on the rounds.
Each split is a place to be late. Each stop lengthens the loop, and the loop is the room's real clock, a critical alert's time-to-noticed is set by how long the rounds take, not by how loud the alert was. The stream is not too loud. It is too scattered.
Across a shift, hundreds of signals get read and a handful get acted on. That judgment, the sifting, happens in heads and vanishes at handover. So when a miss happens there is no record to defend the operator, and when a catch happens there is no record to credit them.
